Lynelle Sweat Mason ’53

Lynelle Sweat Mason ’53 has written a book, Tarnished Haloes, Open Hearts, published by Nurturing Faith, the publishing venture of Baptists Today. Two sections of the book address gay gender incidents: one with her eldest brother who lived during the Great Depression era and served briefly as a marine during World War II, and the other with her son who is 51 years old. Other portions of the book deal with strong women who have influenced her faith journey. Those with UMHB connections are Dr. Marguerite Woodruff, chair of sociology in 1950, Pat Lockridge Shannon ’53, Leona Altoff, and Helen Holmes Ruchti ’53.
