Muriel Vann Burress ’43
Muriel Vann Burress ’43 passed away March 12 in Round Rock. She served nine years as UMHB Alumni Association president in three terms of office: 1963-1966, 1978-1981, and 1981-1984. She also served as chair of the Board of Trustees and was a member of the UMHB Centennial Celebration steering committee. Muriel taught human/speech communications at Southwestern University and speech and drama at McMurry College. She was a noted conference leader and speaker for pastor’s wives as part of her ministry with her husband. She participated in many areas of church leadership as a teacher, pianist, organist, and drama director. In 1984, she and her husband, Tommy, participated in the Billy Graham Crusade revival’s follow-up programs in Seoul, Korea, with Muriel speaking in four different churches. Muriel was the first recipient of the UMHB Distinguished Service Award, presented in 1984.
